Lance Rom, M.A., SOPA - President & Principal Investigator, Archeology
Lance has a Bachelor of Art with double majors in anthropology and geology and a Master of Art in public archeology/anthropology. He has been principal investigator for more than 35 years on over 2,500 previous projects, many of which were in steep, mountainous, or other remote terrain. He managed the Black Hills National Forest’s cultural resources programs in both South Dakota and Wyoming for more than thirteen years between 1984 and 1998. He also managed the Nebraska National Forest’s cultural resources programs and the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service’s cultural resources programs in North and South Dakota for several years. Lance has experience managing all types of cultural resources projects and program budgets in excess of $1,600,000.00 per year, and with over 70 staff members.

Jana Morehouse, M.S., RPA - Operations Manager & Principal Investigator, Archeology
Jana joined QSI and began working in the Great Plains in 2013, and has over a decade of field experience under her belt. She received a Master of Science in anthropology from the University of New Mexico and her Bachelor of Art in anthropology with a minor in Spanish from the University of New Mexico. Her research focused on using LiDAR datasets and historic maps to identify ancient trail systems and prehistoric irrigation ditches over a county-wide area. At QSI, she has managed hundreds of cultural resource research and inventory projects, and has acted as Principal Investigator for both prehistoric and historic projects in many sizes. Jana also has field experience in Hawaii and the Yukon territories. She is the acting Operations Manager, making sure that projects run smoothly for clients and our staff.

Sydney Boos, M.S. - Paleontologist
Sydney received her Master of Science in paleontology from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and a Bachelor of Science in geology from Grand Valley State University. She joined the QSI team in 2015. Sydney has experience as a paleontology intern with the BLM for the Black Rock-High Rock Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area in Nevada and California. She has studied Miocene mammals from Nebraska, and has also worked as a mudlogger gathering, processing, logging, and analyzing geological samples in the oil fields.

Logan Bullard, B.A. - Archeologist
Logan received his Bachelors of Arts degrees in Anthropology and History from the University of South Dakota, and joined the QSI team in 2019. He has excavation experience in Wyoming and methods experience in the Cyclades. Logan also has experience with the American Indian Oral history and the cultural traditions of the Inupiaq and Northeastern Woodlands peoples.
Logan received his Bachelors of Arts degrees in Anthropology and History from the University of South Dakota, and joined the QSI team in 2019. He has excavation experience in Wyoming and methods experience in the Cyclades. Mark Carpenter, M.A. - Principal Investigator, Archeology, Architectural History, History
Mark has been part of the QSI team since 2008 as a principal investigator in the Northern Great Plains and Midwest, and has over 21 years of experience as an archeologist and archaeological technician in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states. Mark holds a Master of Arts in anthropology from Louisiana State University, a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology and history with a minor in geology from Oswego State University, and an Associate of Science with a geology concentration from Jamestown Community College. Mark has also been accepted by the Department of Interior as a historian for the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Elena Houk, MBA - Vice President, Finance & Human Resources
Elena received her Master of Business Administration in applied management and her Bachelor of Science in business administration with a specialization in accounting and management from Black Hills State University. She has been a part of the QSI team since 2010 and is responsible for accounting operations including financial reports, maintenance of accounting records, and budgets. As the human resources manager, Elena plays a vital role in the recruitment, hiring, training, and career development of the entire QSI team.

Jeffrey Larson, MSc, RPA - Principal Investigator, Archeology & History, NEPA/CEQA Coordinator
Jeffrey has a Master of Science in classical art and archaeology from the University of Edinburgh, and a Bachelor of Science in history with a minor in anthropology from Western Oregon University. Jeffrey is a certified burial archeologist in the state of Wisconsin, and specializes in NEPA projects for government agencies including the USDA Rural Utilities Services and the Federal Aviation Administration. He has experience in California, Nevada, the Great Basin, Great Plains, Midwest, and Pacific Northwest. He has worldwide experience including excavations in Spain involving human remains, and teaching anthropology and communications in China.

Lindsay Scott, M.A., RPA - Archeology
Lindsay received her Master of Arts in Anthropology with a focus in archeology from the University of Montana, Missoula and her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a minor in Political Science from the University of Minnesota, Morris. She has excavation experience in British Columbia, Canada at a Native American pithouse village and in Ireland on medieval architecture and human remains. Lindsay was an intern at the University of Montana Anthropological Curation Facility where she developed an Education Outreach program teaching archeology in classrooms in the Missoula community as well as learning/participating in artifact curation.

Reuben Weston - Tribal Liaison
Reuben studied Native American Studies at Oglala Lakota College. He serves as primary tribal liaison for all projects. Reuben organizes and conducts oral history collections, prepares and reviews reports, and is involved with cultural and historic records research, cultural resource field surveys, and archeological and historical site recording and testing. He also provides input on appropriate communication strategies to consult with tribes.
